On January 2019 I started to read the entire Bible. I was inspired by a lot of people in my family who have read the book back to back several times. I figured, being an avid reader and someone who adores literature, words, papers, literally everything print - why have I not ever thought of knowing this incredible and wise book? It is not just a pillar of Christianity but also a source of knowing the history of our Lord , our ancestors and helpful and meaningful advice to live life.
And so I decided to start my bible journey
Reading the Bible for me was always about going to EWTN daily calendars and half heartedly reading some passages from the New Testament. But I wanted a laid out and well defined calendar. Taking the help of one of many online Bible reading calendars, I began this really blessed reading journey.
The daily reading topics were from the Old Testament, Psalms and Proverbs and New Testament.
Honest truth - I knew Old Testament were mostly stories and midway of Leviticus , I lost interest in wars, revenge, punishment, numbers, idols etc. Somewhere around mid 2019, I started skipping the Old Testament and would skim through the topic headings. I mean what was there in numbers of sack of wheat for the pharisees? I don't mean to mock but it is what I thought.
I loved the Psalms hymns and was a great way of praising our Lord. Some poems are beautifully written, expressing what we mean in our devotion.
As always there is something new to learn form the New Testament. no matter how may times we read the parables, there is always something hidden we haven't seen before or failed to grasp earlier.
I plan to restart the reading calendar and to NOT skip the old testament. Next year, I want to be able to say I truly read the ENTIRE Bible.
